"Nothing feels better than creating. Anything from a good hearty meal, to a scribble on a yellow note-pad, to a fine-knitted tapestry, or even a long epic hymn; we are meant to create. That is why it feels so good to participate in any of the arts, and why some of us are so heavily drawn to them. Everyone can easily sit back in the warm comfort of observation, and can idly say things like "I could make a better movie" or "I could write a better book", but very few are willing to contribute. I know, it isn't easy. We don't always feel comfortable putting ourselves on the "chopping block" of our peers' judgments. But this logic is borne solely from fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of not being "good enough". You should never let fear strip you of anything, especially not the most liberating feeling you'll ever know. So: write a better movie! write a better song! paint something absolutely mind bending! Create, dammit!

The shirts
When we, a committee of close friends and family, decided to encourage everyone to wear the same color shirt for the original protest on the Father's Day 2015 protest, we thought we could design a Keaton original for those of us doing the initial planning. A member of the group, who was in charge of starting a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Memorial site at the church, suggested we sell them to raise money for Keaton's memorial spot.
The quote, "I see your hate, and raise you One Love." was originally posted to Keaton's facebook page on April 12, 2012. It really optimizes Keaton's kind and compassionate view of his fellow man-kind. The photo was taken in Langley, WA on July 12, 2014, the original photo was then reduced to one color and it's what you see on the shirt. Together, the photo and the quote together, send a powerful message we can all grasp onto. "One Love"
You can visit the store page to order a shirt from the website.
The selling of the shirts got off to an amazing start, and we have raised enough money to pay for a new basketball goal for the, now full court slab that was laid at the church on May 28th, 2015. The church court was like a sanctuary for Keaton, he loved to shoot hoops there. It wasn't uncommon for him to invite others to gather, and run some games. He often professed that he played his best ball on that court. Using proceeds from the shirt sales, we are going to make court at the church a beautiful place to go and remember Keaton and for families and friends to gather for some fun on the court.
When we have finished all the work at the court, proceeds from sales will go towards keeping awareness through action, so this horrible mistreatment doesn't happen to others in the future.
We are using a wonderful local screen printer, Northwest Design out of Anacortes to print the shirts.
Our long term goal is to make sure there are changes made, both locally and nationally, so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
A big thank you for all your support!
